So, what’s with people?
Since I got my first digital camera in 2001, I have carried a camera with me nearly everywhere we’ve gone out to dinner or site-seeing. I snap pictures, I show people the pictures I have just shot of them, catching them being themselves… like the candid photo of the woman and her sleeping child, at left.
I always offer to e-mail them the picture when I get home. They write down their e-mail address and hand it to me, saying, “That would be great.”
I always follow through.
But only about 1 out of 50 ever even writes back to say “thanks!”
Isn’t that weird?

People are not as civil towards each other as when we were growing up.
This was recently discussed on my favorite CBC radio program “Cross Country Checkup”. It has become such a hot topic that a Canadian University Professor is studying it.
It takes so little to say Thank You to someone who has done you a kindness like holding the door open for you, but very few people ever thank the person that provides the act of kindness.

That is a great picture! Lots of emotion captured.
As for the rest? I think it’s great that you email a copy. You’re a good person.
You providing those acts of kindness is what’s important and there are a lot of people that are very grateful that you are who you are.
And now for the weather….

It’s really sad. I know that you don’t do it for the thanks, but can’t believe that people are so ungrateful for a simple kindness. If they take the time to give you their email it means they want the picture. A thank you should be automatic!

Dave,
You are a very unique, relational guy with a great eye.
I think people are stunned by your kindness and it humbles them. They don’t know how to respond. They might need a couple of times.
I know that is not an option. I may try this myself…I always have my camera.

Nice shot Dave. I have done the same thing in the past, and have to agree with you about not getting a thank you back. Just seems to be one of those strange but true things.

People just don’t realise the importance of communication being a two way street. Somebody does something for me I acknowledge it.
It’s a sad reflection on society today.
I will continue to say ‘thanks’, and encourage others to do the same.
